Summer 2011

Dear friends,

Some of you have written to me with concerns about entering Israel/Palestine in the wake of the 'Right to Entry' protest at Ben Gurion Airport by visiting activists. As I write this, some of the activists are still in Israeli jails awaiting deportation. However ordinary tourists are still coming in droves, and among them are a good number of people who are here to travel in the Occupied Territories. The Israeli government is only barring entry to foreigners whose explicit purpose is to participate in solidarity activites with Palestinians.

Please don't let all this foolishness by my government dissuade you from another visit to Israel/Palestine. My colleagues and I will make you very welcome.
All the best,
Fred Schlomka, Director

NEW - Pilgrimage Study Tours

AshokaOur first 7-day Pilgrimage Study Tours are now online and available for reservations. We will soon be adding 10-day and 14-day tours, available on a scheduled basis and also private tours for individuals, families and groups.
These tours combine visits to the important religious sites, with an in-depth look at the status of Christianity in the Holy Land today, and the modern dynamic between the local Christians, their clerics and institutions, and the governments of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
Participants will explore the roots of Christianity at the source of the faith, and be challenged by social and political analysis presented by the guides and by Palestinian Christians. Our guests will also have the opportunity to hold discussions with believers of other faiths, Palestinians and Israelis who are struggling for social and political justice in a difficult environment. Explore this new tour.

Partner Profile - Beit Ummar Hostel

Among our closest relationships are our colleagues in Beit Ummar, a Palestinian village between Bethlehem and Hebron. The hostel is attached to the home of Mousa and Bekah abu-Maria, and was recently upgraded.

Two new rooms have been added together with bunk beds accommodating up to 16 people. There is a self-catering kitchen and modern bathroom facilities.

The farmland of Beit Ummar villagers continues to be confiscated by nearby Israeli settlements, and staying in the village is an excellent opportunity to view first-hand the impact of the Occupation in the West Bank.
